Conference Best PhD Presentation Prize

The Paper Presentation Prize will be awarded to the best paper presentation by a PhD candidate at RaAM16.
This prize is sponsored by John Benjamins Publishing Company.

Criteria for eligibility

• You are a student member of the RaAM Association and your PhD has not been completed at the time of abstract submission.
• Your submission for a paper has been accepted and you are the sole or main author and
• You will present the paper yourself in the RaAM16 conference

If you meet these criteria and want to be considered for the prize, please indicate this when you register and pay for the conference.

The Local Organising Committee will select the 6 PhD candidates whose paper abstracts have received the highest evaluation from the Scientific Committee in the review of submissions for the conference as finalists. We will then notify all candidates of the decision.

Judges will be appointed by the Local Organising Committee to judge the presentations of candidates during the conference.

All candidates will be scheduled in the same track. The LOC will ensure that judges are not connected with the candidate’s research (e.g. as supervisor, co-supervisor or ex-supervisor).

The winner of the RaAM16 Poster Prize Conference prize will be announced during the closing ceremony of the conference

Best Poster Prize

The Best Poster Prize will be awarded to the best poster presented during RaAM16.

Anyone presenting a poster at RaAM16 is eligible for the prize.

Judges will be appointed by the Local Organizing Committee to evaluate the posters of candidates during the conference. Each judge will independently assess the candidate’s presentation based on the following equally rated criteria:

Introduction is adequate and relevant background to the research topic provided
Research Objectives are clearly communicated
Methodology is appropriate to address the research and is well explained
Findings are clearly presented
Contribution and Relevance aligned with the RaAM vision of applying metaphor research to the real world
Poster Design is easy to follow, with appropriate language, effective use of figures and illustrations, etc.
Oral Presentation is a relevant and informative introduction to the research outlined in the poster.

The winner of the RaAM16 Poster Prize Conference prize will be announced during the closing ceremony of the conference

Early Career Research Prize

The RaAM Early Career Research Paper Prize aims to encourage the production and dissemination of high quality research in the field of metaphor, metonymy, and other forms of figurative expression.

The prize is awarded every conference year for the best research paper published by a researcher who has recently completed a PhD.

The prize for 2023 will be £200 + free RaAM membership until 1st July 2024.
